Special Course Offering

This spring Dr. Gao will be teaching her green chemistry special topics course. Our quality of life and very manner of living are dependent on chemical innovations. Yet chemistry is typically associated with creating environmental pollution problems rather than solving them. The chemical enterprise faces a problem: how to produce the goods and services on which society depends in a manner that does not harm the environment. One way to address some environmental issues is through the application of green chemistry. “Green chemistry” is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances. It encourages further innovations while highlighting advantages that chemistry has offered the environment and society for many years. The application of sound science to environmental issues will enable us to face the challenges of sustainable future.
